  • Soils & Aggregate Inspection/Compaction testing for the following: embankment construction; subgrade compaction; proof rolling of subgrade; placement of 304 aggregate base; storm sewer trench; MSE wall backfill compaction
  • Coatings Inspection for sealing of concrete substructures
  • Concrete QA Testing for concrete placed on the project

SCOPE: Major improvements to the Akron Central Interchange, I-77, SR 8 and I-76; and minor improvements to multiple associated structures, roadways and ramps.

PROJECT DESCRIPTION: This $157.7M project consists of the replacement of the SR-8-1.75 Major Bridge structure with 2 new major bridge structures over the Cuyahoga River Valley located between Glenwood and Perkins Avenues, in the City of Akron, Ohio. The project also includes minor re-alignment of SR 8 with an added auxiliary lane in each direction between Glenwood and Perkins Avenues. To date, QCS has provided construction inspection and field testing of fresh concrete and compaction testing of soils and aggregates as well as AWP entry. Items inspected included the following: drilled shaft installation including verifying and documenting results of SQUID tests; footer excavation and construction; installation of reinforcing steel for drilled shafts and piers; substructure construction; driving of sheet piling; driving of H-piles; noisewall construction; embankment construction; drainage; stem lift; jack and bore operations; installation and grounding of controller cabinet, pedestrian signal poles, traffic lighting; and sealing of concrete piers and abutments.
