SCOPE: Construction of a new pedestrian lift bridge between Voinovich Bicentennial Park and the Great Lakes Science Center.
PROJECT DESCRIPTION: This $12.2M project consisted of the construction of a new moveable bascule pedestrian bridge over the boat passageway from the North Coast Harbor between Voinovich Bicentennial Park and the Great Lakes Science Center. The new bridge has a span length of 120 feet with two 60 foot movable sections. The moveable bridge is powered by a hydraulic operating system that is controlled in a new, stand-alone structure. The new building provides a bridge operator workspace in a safe, conditioned workspace. During the construction of the bridge abutments, cofferdams were utilized and provided a water tight work environment. In addition, barge work was required for multiple portions of the project. Once installed, the bridge was highlighted with aesthetic and navigation lighting.
