Ensuring Quality and Compliance
Quality Control Services has provided field testing services to our clients since 2014. QCS has multiple concrete field test kits, multiple Troxler 3440 nuclear density gauges, and multiple one-point proctor kits for concrete, soil, and aggregate testing. All of our inspectors, and the majority of our engineers, are certified for ACI Concrete Field Testing Technician – Grade 1 to provide index testing for freshly placed concrete. QCS also has experience and equipment to test mortar, grout and self-consolidating concrete (SCC).
In addition to testing freshly-poured concrete, QCS also performs field strength/soundness testing for green and cured concrete. These tests consist of the following: field tensile strength testing of concrete beams using our calibrated Gilson TC31 portable beam breaker; coring of concrete slabs/structures to obtain core specimens for laboratory unconfined strength testing; and non-destructive Windsor Probe and Schmidt rebound hammer for compressive strength testing and/or surface hardness of concrete.
QCS soil and aggregate inspectors use our Troxler 3440 gauges to test compaction of unbound materials/soils placed for embankments and subgrades as well as cement and chemically stabilized subgrades, granular backfill for MSE walls, aggregate/stone base for roadways, and density of asphalt pavement. In conjunction with nuclear density testing, our soil and aggregate inspectors use one-point proctor kits to determine the maximum dry density and optimum moisture content of soils per ODOT specifications.
